Design Technology

Our Vision

At Village Primary School, we want children to develop the skills they need to confidently take on everyday tasks and thrive in a rapidly changing, technological world. Where appropriate, we also make links to the Global Goals and the UNICEF Rights of the Child to help children understand their role in the wider world.

Design and Technology is an exciting, hands-on subject at our school. In every lesson, children are encouraged to be creative and use their imagination to design and make products that solve real-life problems. They think about their own needs, as well as the needs of others, helping them become thoughtful and considerate designers.

Children build a wide range of skills and knowledge, drawing on other subjects such as maths, art and computing. They are encouraged to take risks, try new ideas and become resourceful, innovative and confident learners. By looking at past and present designs, children also begin to understand how design and technology shapes the world around them.

Cooking and nutrition are an important part of our curriculum. Children learn how to prepare food safely and understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle. We aim to inspire a love of cooking, giving children a valuable life skill that will help them look after themselves and others now and in the future.

Overall, we want children to understand that Design and Technology plays an important role in creativity, culture and everyday life, both now and as they grow up.
