Governor Pen Portraits
My name is Stephen Felgate, I am employed by Stockton Borough Council as a Community Support Worker supporting people with differing needs to access a variety of activities within our community.
It has been my pleasure to have been a member of Village Governing Body for over 12 years and to volunteer in school where I can.
Both my children were pupils at Village and had a great start to their ongoing education.
My hobbies or “how I spend my spare time” Bradley Walsh (the Chase), include being an active Middlesbrough FC supporter and a long-term season ticket holder.
I am also a FA qualified football coach and I am Chairperson of Stockton Sportability FC where we train at Northfield School on Thursdays and have regular competitions within the North East.
I live in Thornaby have been a resident of Thornaby on Tees all my life (a long time) so I am invested in the community spirit which is typical of most Thornaby people within our community.
My continued motivation is to support this school in nurturing and educating the children of our community to reach their full potential and to provide and share with them the skills and knowledge to go on to be good citizens of our local community and society as a whole; within a caring, safe and friendly environment and to maintain that historical spirit that the people of Thornaby possess.

I have been a teacher at Village Primary School since January 2018 and joined the Governing Body in September 2024. I am currently the Year 6 teacher as well as the Modern Foreign Language (MFL) curriculum lead across school and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) curriculum lead across school and academy trust. Throughout my time here, I have strived to create an inclusive and nurturing learning environment in which all pupils have equal opportunities to achieve their potential. I also strongly believe in the importance of providing opportunities for all children to develop their Cultural Capital whilst at Village Primary.
I am incredibly proud to work at Village Primary alongside friends and colleagues who share my passion and dedication for teaching and inspiring the future generation.

Hi, I am Marianne Sleeman and I am the Link Governor for SEND and PSHE. I volunteered to become a school governor because I genuinely care about children’s education and want to help make a positive difference. I am proud to support the staff and pupils as the school continues to grow and develop.
I currently work for the School and Governor Support Service but have worked in Education nearly all my working life which I feel gives me a good understanding of the needs of the children and school staff.
As a governor, I like to get to know the school well by visiting school and attending meetings, I find it really rewarding to see the children learning, enjoying school, and gaining confidence as they move through each stage of their education.
I am keen to keep learning more about school governance so I can be as helpful and effective as possible in my role. Above all, I value the opportunity to give something back and to support a school where every child is encouraged to do their best and be proud of their achievements.
I have been a Governor at Village Primary for 10 years. I have 3 children- all boys- who have all attended this school. I started as a Parent Governor when my eldest son was moving into Yr 2. He has recently left school and I have seen many changes over the years but one thing that remains, my immense pride to be part of our school to help shape the lives of our future community, to give our children aspirations and high expectations in life, so they truly believe they can be whatever they want to be when they grow up.
